Helping PA Veterans Connect Through Friendship
Many United States military veterans are combating mental and behavioral health problems, homelessness, physical disabilities, lack of community integration and acceptance; other veterans have died by suicide.
CompeerCORPS is an extension of the traditional peer-to-peer Compeer Model, focusing on the unique bond service members can share. CompeerCORPS matches trained veteran volunteers with veterans experiencing a mental health disorder. CompeerCORPS volunteers spend at least four hours each month with their matches, participating in activities that both enjoy to create supportive friendship connections.
The purpose of CompeerCOPRS is to create a network of military veterans to provide peer mentoring friendships to our guardian service members. This enhances a veteran’s self-esteem and self-worth; improves connectedness to civilian society; reduces dependency on emergency services; reduces stigma through friendship; and creates a strong and supportive environment to successfully lead our veterans on the road to recovery.
